# Ask about care in the room

An in-person visit is a setting for care. Ask what will actually happen there and who is responsible.

← The opening page

## Put a name beside the visit

Request the name of the person doing the assessment and the person who could write a prescription. Ask for their professional title before paying.

The Board of Medical Practice licenses Minnesota doctors and physician assistants; the Board of Nursing licenses nurses, as checked October 1, 2026.

## Separate the assessment from the procedure

Minnesota law checked October 1, 2026 treats giving a medicine, including a shot, as medical practice. A doctor may assign this work to trained staff within their allowed duties. Nurses may give drugs under a prescriber’s direction or an approved written care plan.

Ask who decided on the treatment, who would give it and who answers if you have a concern. A treatment menu leaves those roles unclear.

### Ask what happens after you leave

Ask whether later questions go to the same person who treated you. Get the follow-up plan and its fees in writing before deciding.

## Compare care rather than surroundings

Use the same questions for an office visit and a remote service. Ask for the medicine name, its reason, the assessment and the full cost.

Keep this question

Ask who assesses, who prescribes and who follows up.
